Description
Red/Black hard gelatin size 1 capsule with PETSOW and AMPI 250 printed on either side of the capsule.
DOSAGE:
The usual dosage of Starnicillin by mouth is 2 to 8 capsules every 6 hours for adults. Children may be given half of the adult dose. Starnicillin capsule as a dosage of 2g can be administered with 1g of Probenecid as a single dose orally for the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea.
ADVICE DURING ADMINISTRATION:
Starnicillin should be taken at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after meal.
CONTRA INDICATIONS:
Patients known to be hypersensitive to Ampicillin should be given an antibiotic of another class. Starnicillin should be given with caution to patients with renal impairment especially in high dosage, because of risk of neurotoxicity. It should also not be given to patients with infectious mononucleosis; patients with lymphatic leukaemia or HIV infection may also be at an increased risk of developing skin rashes.
SIDE –EFFECTS:
Skin rashes, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. Pseudo membranous colitis may also occur. Others are palpitation, dizziness and sore tongue.
STORAGE:
Starnicillin should be stored in a cool, dry place at a temperature below 30oC.
