STARBUMOL

starbumol combines paracetamol, ibuprofen and caffeine. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent possesses analgesic anti-inflammatory activities. Ibuprofen is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak serum ibuprofen levels are achieved between 1 and 2 hours of administration. There is no evidence of ibuprofen accumulation or enzyme induction. Ibuprofen is very effective for the relief the symptoms of primary dysmenorrheal, and pain following dental extraction procedure.
Paracetamol is rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the GIT following oral administration. Peak plasma levels are attained between half to 2 hours of oral administration. Approximately 20% to 50% is bound to plasma proteins and is metabolized in the liver largely to glucoronide and sulfate conjugates and eliminated in the urine.
Caffeine in doses of 100-300mg stimulate the CNS. It is believed that there is no synergic antipyretic or analgesic effect between paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Description

for the relief of pains or minor and middle intensity such as headache, neuralgia, myalgia, arthrlgia, toothache, dysmenorrheal but less effective in postoperative and postpartum pain. Also used as analgesic in the treatment of fever. It is also used for the relief of signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Route and condition of administration: By mouth (oral)
Conditions of administration: two capsules to be taken three times daily after food. Antidote in the event of over dose: in case of acute over dose, the stomach should be emptied by vomiting or lavage, though little drug will likely be recovered if more than an hour has elapsed since indigestion. Because the drug is acidic and excreted in the urine, it is theoretically beneficial to administer alkali and induce diuresis. In addition to supportive measures; the use of activated charcoal may help reduce the absorption of ibuprofen.
Teratogenicity: ibuprofen is not recommended for use by pregnant women or by those breasts feeding their infants.
A study in 12 women indicated that lactating women, the indigestion of ibuprofen 400mg every 6 hours would results in less than 1mg of ibuprofen being excreted daily into breast milk.
Contra-indication: The product should not be used in patients who have previously exhibited hypersensitivity to the drug or in individuals with all or part of the syndromes of nasal polyps, angioedema and bronchospatic reactivity to aspirin or other NSAID. Anaphylactiod reactions have occurred in such patients.
Adverse Reactions: ibuprofen like NSAID can inhibit platelets aggregation but the effect is quantitatively less and of shorter duration than that seen with aspirin.
Concomitant administration of ibuprofen with ACE inhibitors will lead to antagonism of hypotensive effect on the later with subsequent increased risk of hyperkalaemia.
Avoid concomitant administration of two or more NSAIDs to prevent increased side effect. Ibuprofen may increase the risk of convulsion with antibacterial agents such as 4-quinolones. Moclobemide (Antiderpresen) enhances the effect ibuprofen. Concomitant administration with corticosteroids may lead to increased risk of gastro-intestinal bleeding and ulcerations and also with cyclosporine may lead to increased risk of nephrotoxicity.
Side effects: large doses taken for a long period can cause gestric distress, heamolytic anaemia, argranulocytosis, uticaria, rash, fever hypoglycaemia, drowsiness, severe hepatic damage and may lead to death.

Storage:Starbumol should be stored in a cold dry and dark place.
